To empower the role of youth in society and develop their capacities, SVF broadcasted a live radio program, funded by MEPI, on Alwan Radio on Wednesday, 16 / 12 / 2009 entitled "Youth Parliament .... Hopes and Challenges" hosted by both of the head of the SVF's youth parliament, Mr. Nedal Almozyen, and Mr. Wasef Abu Mashayekh, social activist. Mr. Abu Mashayekh referred through his speech that SVF's youth parliament is a united module youth parliament to stimulate the youth reality, its core activities are to develop a Palestinian youth political participation based on good governance and the rule of law.
He also stressed the SVF's objectives of establishing such parliament included short-term objectives such as the success of the Youth Parliament, and medium-term to prepare and develop youth capacities, and long-term to achieve the rights of youth wholly and completely.
On the other side, Mr. Abu Mashayekh assisted the most important obstacles that could face young people involving the Israeli occupation and the brutal blockade imposed on all areas and aspects of the Gaza Strip. On his part, he thanked all the youth for their great attendance during the conference, which included the youth parliamentary elections. He referred also that the next steps will be implemented and followed up by the SVF to form working committees of the parliament, including economic, political, media, scientific and practical committees.
On his role, Mr. Almozyen spoke about his first electoral experience as speaker of parliament, pointing out that the idea of Youth Parliament is the idea of every young aspiring to discuss and share his concerns and problems. On the most important recommendations that came out of parliament, Abu Mashayekh classified them at the importance of building a appropriate and right data base, preparing a comprehensive national plan involving all institutions, and the need for activating democracy through activating youth role by youth quota right as well as the need to adopt an educational system to ensure a democratic educational system. In conclusion, Abu Mashaykh assisted the need for free education and to ensure health insurance since the entry of young people in education and even graduate school and the realization of rights in all educational curricula. On his part. Mr. Almozyen indicated that SVF provided young people a good opportunity to form their own parliament, hence, they have to work very hard so that it can achieve even part of thier dreams and goals.
