SVF accomplished a project on stop torture against women

2009-12-28.

SVF  finished a project entitled "Stop torture against women," funded by WWDP. The project targeted 150 young leaders, graduates of Psychology and and activists in the media and civil society. in Gaza Strip and the West Bank. During the project, a network of NGOs was formed, which consists of 25 institutions of civil society in Palestine that represent various sectors aims to promote to amend draft laws and legislations to prevent torture against women and children and protect them from all forms of violence.

Many community activities implemented on "mechanisms to stop torture against women," which included training of specialists in psychology and sociology on dealing with violent women and mechanisms to reduce violence against women besides training of broadcasters on the media's role to stop violence against women.

Furthermore, the project also targeted the largest sector of society to work on community outreach to end violence against women through broadcasting 12 radio programs and 12 on Alwan Radio hosted by a number of experts and specialists concern community issues.

Moreover, it included conducting 24 public meeting  targeted 250 participations from all governorates of the Gaza Strip aimed at improving the psychological and economic status of women and children by providing them with social and legal consultancy and assistance.

To raise community awareness of women rights to stop torture against women, SVF prepared, issued, circulated and distributed SVF's supplement aimed focused on a number of issues that concern women, such as the media role to combat violence against women, women's movement in the Gaza Strip between reality and challenges, reportage on killing women on social backgrounds and the role of NGO's to stop violence against woman.
