SVF produced and broadcasted a live radio program this week on Jan 13, 2010, entitled "Women between the injustice of law and the media marginalization", guests included both Mr. Hassan Jaber, from Al-Hayat newspaper, and the lawyer Mr. Samir Hasina, from the Palestinian Center for Human Rights. On his part, Mr. Hasina pointed out that the Palestinian Law is a mixture of Ottoman, Turkish, Egyptian, Jordanian laws and the the Palestinian National Authority began attempts to amend some laws contribute to protect women rights. On his part, Mr. Jaber tackled the role of the media at covering the issues of violence against women and stressed that women issues had not dealt effectively because the media preoccupied with covering the political events, which dominated the social ones. In this regard, he addressed the image of women in the media and said If there is suitable and encouraging climate, the women will innovate in this regard. On the other hand. Mr. Abu Zaher rejected the principle that the man is dealing with issues of violence against women, and emphasized that women are better able to express their needs and that he is against talking about women from the humanitarian side, but must talk about from all aspects, whether women, militant or martyr. In conclusion, he stressed on the need to an alliance between these institutions, the media and workers in human rights to change this stereotype. As well as the need to focus in raising the issues of women in all media and coordinating between the media and women's institutions to form a lobby to support women's issues on an ongoing basis and not seasonal.
