SVF broadcasted live radio program to discuss school tardiness, dimensions and causes on Wednesday 20/1/2010 attended by a social worker Ms. Do'aa Alhasanat from the Palestinian Center for Development - Deir Al-Balah. Ms. Alhasanat defined underdevelopment of study as a failure, delay or shortage in studying for mental, physical or social reasons. In this sense, she pointed out that school tardiness is a multidimensional problem, sometimes, the problem of psychological, educational and at other times, the problem of social reasons that concerns psychologists, educators, social workers and parents. Accordingly, this problem have received a lot attention of educators, parents and students themselves. Ms. Alhasanat referred to the dimensions (educational, social or economic ) as well as causes and the reasons involved low degree of intelligence of some students, lack of memory and seems to the inability to storage and preservation of information, lack of attention and lack of ability to concentrate, weakness in the ability to deductive reasoning, the slow learning of some mental processes. In the same context, she tackled the types of school tardiness showed a number including public tardiness which includes all the materials and special tardiness which is limited to a number of materials.
In conclusion, Ms. Alhasanat recommended to the need to avoid marital disputes between parents, particularly against children, which will reflect negatively on their mental health. Furthermore, she emphasized the role of the school, which at least as important as the role of the family and demanded the importance to investigate the causes of dropping out of school and follow up all social, family and behavioral conditions of students.
