SVF held a public meeting in cooperation with Beit Al Khair Association - Al.Maghazi camp entitled "role of youth in establishing the concepts of transparency and monitoring" on Wednesday February 17, 2010 participated by Mr. Mohammad Al.Najar, mayor of Al.Maghazi Municipality and Mr. Ayman Al.Hour, executive director of Al-Karmel Cultural Association.
Mr. Al.Najar stressed the importance of the citizen's participation and cooperation with the municipalities in the implementation of developmental and community projects, indicating that this cooperation contributes often to the maintenance of the implemented municipality projects and their success and development. In this sense, he referred that the work of the municipality is different from other institutions due to the direct contact with the public. On his part, he explained that, for there, it must be a balanced view between the rights and duties to overcome obstacles and constraints faced in the implementation of municipal projects. Hence, he emphasized on the need to take advantage of all available resources and harness them to serve the citizens.
On the basis of "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", Mr. Al.Najar pointed out that that reform begins from ego, and good citizens have to stand in the face of corruption and combating it.
In the same context, Mr. Alhour confirmed the importance of youth role at promoting such concepts within Palestinian civil society, for several reasons, including that young people are the majority of the Palestinian community and representing a large and important sectors of society. In addition, they are the first beneficiaries of disseminating such concepts, as they are the heirs of present with all its advantages and disadvantages. As well as, they are the first victims and the most affected in the long running of corruption and its consequences. Mr. Alhour concluded that youth are able to change their reality for the better if they fight corruption with all tools.
