SVF organized an awareness youth meeting in cooperation with Wissal Association for Raising Healthy and Community Awareness at Khan Younis on "Role of youth in the development process" on July 5, 2010, participated by 25 graduates. Mr. Jaber Abu Zaher was the speaker of the meeting.
Mr. Abu Zaher defined the concept of development as a comprehensive economic, social, cultural and political process in order to create wealth and improve people's lives based on free and active contribution of all individuals in development, and on the basis of equitable distribution of revenues.
On the other hand, the participants indicated the most factors prevented the progress of the development process including the siege upon the Gaza Strip and the lack of natural resources as well as a shortage of internal and external investment due to the surrounded circumstances besides the increasing population. Furthermore, the participants stressed that the spreading of corruption in all its forms and the lack of reinforcing the concept of community development are the main reasons that hinder the development process.
In conclusion, Mr. Abu Zaher confirmed the great role of youth in resisting the obstacles of development through educating and raising community about critical issues related to development process such as combating corruption by uniting efforts of all members of society to work as one team, with the available possibilities to provide the greatest possible measure of well-being for the Palestinian people.
