SVF held a public awareness meeting in collaboration with Nawar Education Center on "University Disciplines ..... between confusion and anxiety" on Monday, July 19, 2010 attended by 20 participants of graduates and women. Mr. Jaber Abu Zaher was the speaker of the meeting. Mr. Abu Zaher hoped success to all the students. He pointed out the difficulties face the student upon gaining the results including the search for the appropriate university specialization and the confusion between satisfying personal wishes and parents interest to choose the appropriate specialization.
In his turn, Mr. Abu Zaher raised several questions related to the fate of students who did not achieve the required rates to join higher education and the obstacles that will face them in their future, and if there is a realistic study on this issue.
He stressed the need to reach a comprehensive solution through an educational study includes a comprehensive framework of the suitable university courses for secondary school students. On the other side, Mr. Abu Zaher mentioned the most important constraints face students at selecting disciplines including poor guidance and direction of school, community and family and lack of a clear coordination between the bodies which provide educational programs for post-secondary education in addition to the changes that occur in the labor market between supply and demand in the disciplines and the high cost (expensive) for some disciplines, forcing students to join easy and cheap disciplines.
In conclusion, Mr. Abu Zaher advised parents to take care of raising and follow up their sons to build up strong personal and unique conscious culture to be able to choose the appropriate post-secondary education. Also he stressed the necessity of listening to the views of their son's personal preferences and desires.
